How ATP Cleaning Verification can help!

In times like these, knowledge is power.

Hygiena™ has been closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and the implications it has for our employees, customers and communities. During this time we have received a multitude of questions regarding our solutions as they pertain to the situation.

Due to this, we wanted to take this time to explain how our ATP Cleaning Verification products work and are suggested to be used in this troubling time.

 

How Hygiena ATP Cleaning Verification Products Work:

  • Hygiena's cleaning verification products can tell you in as little as 10 seconds if a surface has been cleaned properly using ATP.
  • ATP is an energy molecule found in all plant, animal and microbial cells. It fuels metabolic processes such as cellular reproduction, muscle contraction, plant photosynthesis, respiration in fungi, and fermentation in yeast. All organic matter (living or once-living) contains ATP, including food, bacteria, mold and other microorganisms.
  • Hygiena™ ATP testing devices contain a natural enzyme found in fireflies. This enzyme, called luciferase, produces a simple bioluminescence (lightproducing) reaction when it comes into contact with ATP. Using bioluminescence technology, our ATP Meters can measure extremely low levels of ATP collected with testing devices. Measuring the amount of bioluminescence from an ATP reaction provides an excellent indication of surface cleanliness because the quantity of light generated by the reaction is directly proportional to the amount of ATP present in the sample.

Relevant Hygiena Product Information:

  • ATP systems do not detect viruses directly. However, COVID-19 infected material that contains biological residues will be detected by an ATP system.
  • Hygiena does not produce a virus test
  • Performing ATP CleaningVerification does not guarantee removal of viruses on surfaces
  • ATP Cleaning Verification should be used in conjunction with CDC recommendations and guidelines

The new EnSURE™ Touch monitoring system was a featured product in the Clinical Services Journal, a British publication serving healthcare professionals. 

The article highlighted the need to monitor cleaning efforts in patient rooms, operating suites and on key pieces of equipment, and showed how the EnSURE Touch can accurately measure ATP and protein residues to quickly determine potential problem areas. 

Recently, the Hygiena™ UltraSnap ATP Test received Performance Tested MethodSM certification from the AOAC-RI on the EnSURE Touch luminometer, demonstrating the systems’ sensitivity, reliability and robust operation. The certification is a modification of Hygiena’s existing AOAC-RI certification of the UltraSnap using the EnSURE luminometer.

Hygiena’s UltraSnap™ Surface ATP Test received Performance Tested Method℠ certification from the AOAC-RI on the new EnSURE™ Touch luminometer, demonstrating the systems’ sensitivity, reliability and robust operation. The certification is a modification of Hygiena’s existing AOAC-RI certification of the UltraSnap using the EnSURE luminometer.

Data submitted to the AOAC demonstrates the system to have a high level of sensitivity with a limit of detection of 1.28 femtomoles of ATP and high degree of consistency and accuracy.

The EnSURE Touch is a next-generation ATP monitoring system that collects, analyzes and reports data from multiple quality tests such as, water quality, indicator microorganisms, and process indicators (residual enzyme activity). The system provides a multi-functional tool for monitoring quality and safety parameter in food safety, healthcare and other industries

UltraSnap tests have consistently outperformed other ATP tests when data from other independent reports are compared.
